Swing Phase Lock 2 Orthotic Knee Joint

Swing Phase Lock 2 Orthotic Knee Joint

The Swing Phase Lock joint is designed for users who have difficulty controlling the knee during stance phase as in the situation of insufficiency of the knee extensors.

This creates an unstable and unsafe gait pattern. Usually this also results in an asymmetric gait pattern with an increase in energy consumption. The SPL2 joint ensures, independent of any load, a locked knee prior to heel-strike and disengages automatically at the end of stance phase. This allows the user to learn to walk again with confidence, while the gait pattern approaches normal gait more closely by improving energy consumption, symmetry, gait velocity and reducing compensatory movements.
